Charitable Giving

While Heffernan has been active in the community since it was formed in 1988, over the last few years it has taken a more formal approach to charitable giving by establishing a Charitable Fund committee to oversee the projects and donations.

Working with Heffernan Group regional offices, the committee identifies one nonprofit per office to support each year. Heffernan staff volunteer off-site to work up to four full days per year, one each quarter. This is paid time during the work day for employees to give back to the community. Through these relationships with our neighbors in need, Heffernan is proud to give staff the time to enjoy the rewarding experience of hands-on-giving.

Volunteer Week 2007

The Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) seeks to help communities and enrich lives by combining the collective strengths of the industry to provide grants, volunteer service and leadership. Heffernan Insurance Brokers has been a member of the IICF since 2002 and has participated in their annual volunteer week each year in October. Nonprofit agencies, which receive support from IICF throughout the year and insurance companies, including family members, are able to volunteer on a project together. In 2007 Heffernan chose to work with Rubicon Programs Inc., San Francisco Food Bank and Project Night Night

Charitable Contributions - Employee Matching

Employee Matching - Offers employees the opportunity to donate to a charity of their choice each year. Heffernan matches a portion of their donation. In 2007 Heffernan donated to over 60 charities through the employee matching program.

Charitable Contributions - Large Gift Giving

In 2007 Heffernan donated over $280,000 to nonprofit agencies throughout the Bay Area and Portland, Oregon. Heffernan accepts proposals from 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations throughout the year. Any nonprofit organization wishing to be considered for a donation must apply. The committee meets to make the final decision on the large gift giving donations in November of each year. Submissions must be received no later than November 1 to be included for the grant year

Adopt A Family

In 2007 Heffernan participated in the Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program throughout several communities. Employees were able to purchase gifts and food items for their specific family, wrap them and donate them for the holiday season. The employees enjoyed the opportunity to assist in giving these families a happy holiday season. In 2007 Heffernan was able to Adopt 19 families.
